Stop Avoiding Things You Need To Do

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Did you ever feel like you wanted to join the Procrastinator’s Club, but never quite got around to it? At some point in time, procrastination plagues us all, some more than others, but everyone at some point gets a bite from the bug.

We’ve all heard the quote, “Why put off till tomorrow what you can do today?” For some of us, this is the only motivation we need, while others struggle with putting things off for weeks, months, or even years.

Overcome procrastination so it does not become a way of life. Coupled with practical tips, techniques, focus and the right attitude, you can put procrastination in your past.

Here are five strategies you can use today to help you bite the procrastination bug back:

1. Set small goals. Many times, we feel overwhelmed with a task, so we continue to put it off until we have no choice but to complete it.

Combine the new projects with the old projects we already put off, and you have a recipe for some serious procrastination.

Procrastination can be avoided right from the start by setting small quickly achievable goals. Here are some tips for setting those small goals:

* Break your big project up into smaller steps. These steps can be completed systematically one at a time. Make sure you have well-defined end points for each smaller goal, that way you have something to keep you going.

* Setting small goals provides you a nonstop feeling of accomplishment as they’re attained. You’ll be motivated to continue with each success you achieve, and feel better about yourself.

* Giving yourself break points allows you to focus on each individual task and takes the overwhelming feeling out of the job. In addition, they give you a prime place to get up, move around, and refresh yourself for the next step.

2. Avoid distractions. We all do it. We sit down to start working, but have to get back up and grab some coffee. Then we sit back down and check email, then voicemail, and then email again just to make sure no one sent a message while we were checking the voicemail. How long did that take?

* Try checking your email only twice a day instead of every 5 minutes. You need to have some time to focus!

* Get everything you want, need or think you need before you sit down to start working so you can concentrate.

3. Delegate. Start giving some of your responsibilities to others instead of hogging them for yourself and creating more stress. Stress leads to procrastination, procrastination leads to tight deadlines, and tight deadlines lead to more stress; it’s a vicious cycle.

4. Keep a list. A constant reminder of the things you absolutely need to do is a great way to avoid procrastination. A small pocket notebook or even a note card works wonders for list keeping.

For quick reference, keep a list of your daily projects and things to do with you at all times.

* Include your small goals on your list. Get started early each day completing those small, easy goals. Doesn’t it feel great to scratch through the things you’ve completed? Before you know it, the whole list is marked off!

5. Turn it off. When you’re done for the day, shut down everything work related. Don’t take it home if you can help it. Turn your brain off at the end of your workday. By giving your brain a break, you help avoid over exhaustion and keep your mind fresh for the next day.

Recharge your batteries by spending time doing the things you love.

Select a few of these different techniques and try them out. Studies have shown it takes 21 days to form a habit and if you truly want to beat procrastination, you have to make productivity a habit.

When you’ve made a habit of one of the strategies, pick out another one, and before you know it, you’ll be the personification of productive!

The Use Of Lenses In Photography

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Just having a camera is not going to get you the best pictures.  Most of us who take photos are amateurs in the art world, but with the right digital photography lessons our photography can be elevated to a new height.  Lenses are important especially when you settle on a medium you will train in.  Most photographers choose one area of photography to specialize in.There is a standard 35-80mm lens along with telephoto and panoramic lenses among the many types that are available.

Most digital cameras have a 35- 80 mm lens, even the point and shoot type. Most of the time you get a standard lens when you purchase a camera casing.  All lenses are interchangeable. You need to make sure that the diameter is the same and you can best do that if you stick with the same brand of lens as your camera.  The diameter of most lenses is the same as long as you keep to the same brand.  The 35- 80 mm lens tells you the extent of reach.  While you can take photographs several miles away with a standard lens you will not have the distinction of features in the print that you need.  The standard lens is great for close up shots, such as flowers, spider webs, people, and pets. You need a larger lens in order to gain a more defined picture that is miles away.

There are many canon telephoto zoom lenses in photography.  One is the 75- 300 mm lens.  While this is not as massive as other telephoto lenses you may see a professional walking around with it is a great step up for mountain and wildlife photography when your quarry is some distance away.It is best to have a stabilizer with the lens especially when you begin to move from the 35mm into something larger.  A stabilizer will help you hold the camera steady for clear shots even if your hand moves a little bit.  When you move into the world of the telephoto lens you can by accessories to help with angles and light.

Photography in the world of panorama is another way to take spectacular landscape photos.  The panoramic lens allows you to widen the photograph, especially with a digital camera. The panoramic lens is the best way to go rather than cutting an pasting a picture of a glacier or mountain range together in Photoshop in order to get the whole picture.  I’m sure you have seen landscapes with a panoramic view and wished you could have that option. You can use a panoramic lens that will widen the photograph even with film cameras.

All three lenses are just the icebergs on the use of lenses in photography. You will want to maximize your photo taking skills whether you are either an amateur or a budding professional photographer.A tripod will be the next piece of equipment you will want to purchase because it will help you stabilize a camera with a larger lens even more.  Tripods are pretty simple and lightweight pieces of equipment and work great for portrait photography.  All mediums in photography require moderate to top of the line camera equipment to produce a photograph with quality.  Photography also relies on the photographer’s skill and eye. When you begin your study of the art of photography you will find that lenses are just a small part of photography.  If you have any questions on lenses the best places to find answers are your local photography shop.

A Television Program About Alcoholic Signs Results in Some Fretful and Disheartening Feelings About a Young Woman’s Excessive Drinking

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Daniel had been engaging in irresponsible drinking behavior since her sophomore year in college. Now, eight years later, she drank more than ever. One Wednesday night when she was feeling a bit run down, Daniel made up her mind to stay home, loosen up, and watch television.

While seeking to find a special program to watch that she would find exciting, she instantaneously got involved in a special program about teenage and young adult drinking problems.

When Common Alcohol Addiction Signs and Symptoms are Exhibited by Alcohol Addicted People

The speaker defined the difference between alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction and then discussed the subject of alcohol addiction symptoms and alcoholism warning signs. When the commenter went into detail about a person’s alcoholic behavior and some of the more familiar alcohol dependency symptoms and signs that individuals dependent on alcohol manifest, Daniel got quite concerned because it virtually seemed as if the narrator was talking directly to her.

After watching the TV documentary, Daniel promised herself that she would telephone her physician the next business day and make an appointment to discuss her drinking problem.

When the following morning arrived, true to her word, Daniel called her health care professional and made an appointment. In the meantime, she went on the web and did a search for alcoholic symptoms. Especially difficult were the following signs or symptoms: sleep problems, substantial relationship and work-related problems, making excuses to drink at virtually every opportunity, sneaking extra drinks before social events, and increasing irritability.

In short, since Daniel displayed all of these symptoms she went into greater detail in her online search and found numerous blogs and websites that articulated diverse alcoholism warning signs and symptoms.

One of the signs that really caught her awareness was the following: “Do you ever drink after making a promise to yourself that you won’t?” While Daniel never concluded that she may have a critical drinking problem, after reading about the various alcohol addiction warning signs and symptoms, she couldn’t counter the fact that for the past ten or eleven months, she again and again tried but was not successful at significantly lessening her drinking or totally stopping.

When Friends and Neighbors Get on Your Nerves by Frowning on Your Hazardous Drinking

Another alcohol dependency symptom that captured her awareness was the following: “Have coworkers and friends irritated by criticizing your drinking behavior?” When Daniel read this she immediately thought about a recent fight she had with her best girlfriend about her abusive drinking behavior. What is more, Daniel without a doubt reflected on a recent squabble she had with her parents about her hazardous drinking. Since Daniel truthfully thought that she didn’t have a drinking issue, when others mentioned her drinking she of course got disturbed and angry.

A third alcohol addiction warning sign was the following: “Do you crave a drink when you first awaken in the morning?” Until now, Daniel had been deceitful with herself about her drinking behavior. After reading about the aforementioned alcoholism warning signs, nonetheless, she knew if she was really frank with herself that she was facing a serious drinking problem, especially given the fact that she now thought that she needed a drink the first thing when she got up to diminish her anxiety.

Not only this but the next alcohol addiction warning sign really got her thinking about her problem drinking: “Do you drink to sidestep trouble or suffering?” When she reflected on her life for a few minutes, she grasped the fact that nearly in every complicated circumstance in the past two or three months, she told herself that she needed a drink to help manage her life.

The final alcoholic warning sign that made her feel fairly apprehensive about her drinking circumstance was the following: “Has your ambition dropped off since you started drinking more repeatedly?” When Daniel read this sign she clearly recognized that drinking had become a serious issue in her life because of her lack of energy and also because she gave up pursuing her goals and her passions.

Conclusion: When Misery Turns Into Something Wonderful and A Sense of Anticipation

After reflecting on all of these destructive alcoholism signs and symptoms, Daniel at first felt crestfallen. Then something surprising came about. She reflected on the fact knew that she was going to see her doctor about her drinking and she also knew that she would discuss all of the above alcoholic warning signs and symptoms with her. If truth be told, for the first time in several months, Daniel sincerely felt a sense of optimism because she was facing her drinking problems and was after all has been said and done ready to make the needed modifications so that she could get back the life that was slipping away.

Fender American Stratocaster Guitar

Friday, July 31st, 2009

What is it that makes the Stratocaster such an individual guitar is the unique, intimate sound which comes from the three single coil pickup configuration. You may find they can be a little noisy at times and can take time to get to grips with at high volumes, they do have a raw sound  that is great for that rock n roll sound. They have a great fit and finish, with exceptional attention to detail. I’m know others would say I’m sure that the Fender Strat holds tuning exceptionally-extremely well. The action on my Stratocaster was setup about right for me, which is a plus as well. You’ll often find the factory settings on some guitars higher than they need to be. I decided to go with a maple board for my Stratocaster as it seems to glide nicely, as well as a satin neck which is nice and smooth. They do comein a number of wood finishes, but it depends upon what is right for you. The American Standard Stratocaster includes a new bridge, with improved bent-steel saddles for that increased resonance and sustain. The saddles keep that classic look and tone, but with a few modern improvements for example spacing, slot elongation as well as height screw length. The bridge is designed to complement the 22 medium jumbo frets and rolled edges which gives you more space for your fingers . They have also elongated the string slot to reduce friction and string breakage, while improving the string break angle over the primary contact point. Other than all this the fact that the Stratocaster is one of the most sought after model of guitar tells you a lot in its self.

I bought my Stratocaster online from Music 123, which is a great site not just because of their prices, but the fact they are so honest with their reviews. The products they sell are top quality. My Fender Stratocaster was available with many finishes which include the wood finishes and colors and on top of that a number of different knobs, tips and pickup covers.
