James Bond- could we have not done this list without him? Always well dressed, with the best gadgets and a gorgeous girl on his arm whilst saving the day, Bond showed us how to save the world with style. We will all argue over who is the best actor to play him, but 007’s abilities are never in any question. Bond is the person we think of when we hear the term ’spy’, and nobody does it better.
Harry Palmer- Micheal Caine played the Anti Bond. A world apart from Bond, the Palmer films took places in gritty settings, with Palmer himself a mirror image of Bond. Nowhere near as flashy, without Bond’s background, looks and sporting glasses, what Palmer did know what to do was get the job done, which he did in 5 films.
Austin Powers -the 60s number one spy, who was unfroze in the 90s to fight Dr. Evil. Powers is a send up of all the great spy movies, with Palmers glasses and Bonds gadgets, but with a charm all of his own. Powers would always save the day, but not before giving us all a good laugh along the way. Not only have the movies successfully paid tribute to the spy movies of yesterday, but also given us catchphrases and a world all of its own.
Jason Bourne. Millions of dollars and the training made him the man for the job, but we first met Bourne having bullets pulled out of him, and no memory of who he is. Bond didnt adapt greatly to the new millenuim, but Bourne slotted in brilliantly, blending into the crowd to work, but not above acting when the moment called for it. Attacked by the agency who trained him over the three movies, Bourne was always one step ahead.
